They aren't particularly easy to find and recall from the backup disk either. Your Printer Presets are used to save printer settings such as: paper type, resolution, any special settings such as Paper Configuration, etc. If printing over Ethernet it will be shown as 'IP'. You'll need to W-A-I-T for the correct Epson, Canon, etc. Some of these may be the faulty Apple drivers, and may be shown as 'Airprint'.

OEM drivers are not available for some consumer printers and some older printers. OR cannot correctly print using Application Colour Management from Photoshop, etc. This means that it cannot be used to correctly print Profiling Targets with the Adobe Color Printer Utility, as it will convert to a profile. The AirPrint driver cannot switch OFF Colour Management correctly! USB-connected printers can also be 'AirPrint'. This printer is shown as 'AirPrint' even though it is connected by Ethernet and not wireless. You will need to replace the Apple AirPrint printer driver with the printer manufacturer's OEM one, if available. First Check that you are not using the Airprint Printer DriverĬheck that you are using the correct OEM driver and not the Apple Airprint Driver:ġ) In System Preferences open Printers & Scanners menu.Ģ) You will see a list of all your printers.Ĥ) This should display the name and type of printerĪnd probably the driver version (as here).ĥ) If you see the printer type shown as AirPrint (as here) and/or driver version as AirPrint you have a serious problem!. Canon has, at last, produced a driver for some of these. These include certain models in the 'Pixma TS' series. However, there are some 'consumer' printers for which there are no OEM drivers available for macOS, especially certain Canon models. The only remedy is to replace it with the correct Canon/Epson/HP driver, IF available. If you have (inadvertently?) installed this Airprint driver you will absolutely not be able to print our (or any other) Profiling Targets properly, AND not be able to correctly use 'Application Colour Management' in Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One, Qimage, etc. Important to note is that, although the driver is named 'Airprint', it is not only used for wi-fi printing BUT is also used for printing via USB or Ethernet.Ģ) Cyans and greens printing very light and unsaturated, with cyan turning towards 'turquoise'.ģ) Saturated reds and magentas often printing with cyan in them, with magenta turning towards 'purple'.Ĥ) The 'Color Matching' settings in the menu will usually be wrong, and sometimes be selectable when they should be 'greyed-out'. These basic drivers are the 'Airprint' ones designed for printing snapshots directly from unsophisticated apps and not for serious photographers who want control over their printing. The problem is usually caused by the very basic and undocumented Apple Airprint printer driver being installed rather than the more sophisticated genuine Canon, Epson or HP, etc. These problems may show when printing our profiling charts using the Adobe utility, or when printing images from Photoshop, Lightroom, or other applications with 'Application Colour Management'.
